Each year there's a few wildcards that sneak into the top 20 at the end of Brownlow Night, and you wonder how the hell did that happen? Angus Brayshaw managed to do that but went three steps further and made the top 3 in 2018, while Dylan Shiel snuck into the top 20 last year despite being ranked 37th on Downlow averages. Who will it be in 2020?

Tom Rockliff $2.00

Back in 2013 and 2014 Rockliff was polling at a huge rate, nearly going a vote per game across the two seasons. He's never quite been the same but this year he could well cost Travis Boak a Brownlow thanks to his run home.

Rocky goes large to finish the season averaging just under 29 touches in his last five games of the season which could see him poll 8 votes to finish strong.

With 10 votes likely to result in a top 20 finish this season, Rockliff is in the mix at $2.

Lachie Whitfield $3.00

A disappointing year for the Giants, but they still managed 8 wins and someone has to poll. Taranto missed a chunk injured, while Coniglio and Kelly were down on form - but Whitfield still managed to find plenty of footy, as the leading ball winner in 50% of the Giants wins this season.

The averages leaderboard has Whitfield 25th, but only 0.75 behind 20th place while the Downlow WAVs board has Whitfield even closer just 0.33 behind 20th spot.

Has polled well the last two seasons, so every chance of sneaking in.

Whitfield has polled well the last two seasons

Zak Jones $3.00

If not Jack Steele, then who? Jones played majority mid for the first time in his career after joining the Saints from Sydney and flourished under Brett Ratten.

The Saints managed 10 wins this season, and being a low-possession winning team it's hard to see how the umpires will give votes in their wins.

Steele is the obvious choice, but we're not sure how he's going to poll with no polling history. We've got Jones 24th on the averages board, and if he's capable of pinching some votes from Steele he should find himself in the top 20.

Tom Mitchell $5.00

He didn't have a great year, nor did the Hawks - but he does two things really well.

1) Win the footy

2) Poll Brownlow votes

The averages board has Mitchell polling 10.02 votes this season, only 0.35 behind 20th spot - but the Downlow WAVs have Mitchell in at 16th place.

Although he'll likely poll in just the five games, there's the possibility that Mitchell could find a vote in up to 10 games. You can't deny his ability to win the footy, so expect Mitchell to lead the Hawks count and potentially sneak into the top 20 at the big odds of $5.
