It was a huge season by St Kilda’s Rowan Marshall, despite being snubbed from the All Australian squad of 44.

If we look at what Marshall delivered year on year though, it was near on identical. The key difference being his goal average going from 0.3 to 0.7 per game – a total of 15 majors in 2024 against just 8 in 2023.
The far-right column is the most interesting of the lot though – 0.13 Brownlow votes per game! Marshall polled three votes for the entire season, but in 2024 with similar stats is priced at $1.35 to lead St Kilda’s team votes.
The Downlow on the Brownlow did the post-2023 recap where we look at underachievers and overachievers, and there were two major standouts on these lists. Marshall was listed as the second-largest underachiever, with a projected 12.36 votes and a difference of -9.36. On the flip-side of this though was another Saint, Jack Steele who was projected for just 7.77 votes and finished on 15 – ranked fourth on the list of overachievers.
The other elephant in the room is Jack Sinclair. Although his disposals went from 28.9 to 27.1 per game, Sinclair’s clearances and centre bounce attendances were up, along with his contested possessions. Last year we had Sinclair polling 18 votes – the Saint finished on 21.
Despite the Downlow on the Brownlow averages having Marshall on top with 13.4, Steele is very close on 12.2 with Sinclair on 10.8. Of the 18 vote counts, half do have Marshall on top but five have Steele leading and the remaining four have Sinclair.
With both Steele and Sinclair paying $5.50 on Sportsbet, they appear great value based on the polling history of the three Saints.
