It's been an interesting start to the 2021 AFL season from a Brownlow perspective. Pre-season favourites Lachie Neale and Patrick Cripps are nowhere to be seen, while a handful of veterans have emerged early days in the Brownlow race.

10 - Luke Parker (Sydney) 5.5 votes

He just polls. A very underrated start from the star Swan with plenty of the hype around Sydney's kids, while Parker averaged 26.8 disposals and 1.3 goals in their 4-0 start to the season. Has now had 15+ votes in four of his last five seasons so expect a hot start from gun Swan.

9 - Travis Boak (Port Adelaide) 6.17 votes

He's 32 years old and actually getting better - Travis Boak simply defies logic. Once again a strong start from Boak who finished second in 2020 with 21 votes, averaging 1.24 votes per game. The Power continue to win which goes a long way for a Boak Brownlow.

8 - Clayton Oliver (Melbourne) 6.33 votes

Notoriously not a great poller but did perform quite well in 2020 with 14 votes, finishing top-ten and ahead of teammate Max Gawn by a vote. Dees are winning and Oliver is collecting a stupid amount of footy, but how does he stack up next to Petracca and Gawn in the umpires' eyes?

7 - Oliver Wines (Port Adelaide) 7.02 votes

Perhaps Ollie Wines best start to a season, with the bull from the Power ranked fourth in the AFL for disposals with 31.5 per game. Another player that's a sneaky good poller with 10+ votes in four of his last five seasons, but this season has been by his best to date. Needs to hit the scoreboard going forward if he wants to crack the top-five.

6 - Christian Petracca (Melbourne) 7.33 votes

No doubt you're sick of us talking about Melbourne and Port Adelaide players, but when you're good at footy and your team keeps winning you're going to poll - and this is the case for Christian Petracca. Finished third last season on 20 votes with no polling history, and has had some big games averaging 30 touches and 1.3 goals per game. Currently listed as favourite with Pointsbet.

Christian Petracca is Melbourne's best Brownlow chance according to bookies

5 - Dustin Martin (Richmond) 7.42 votes

When Richmond win you can just about pencil 3 votes for Dusty. The Tigers have only won three of their six games this season though and now with Dusty out for Round 7 to go with his history of cruising through the first half of the season, you'll get a better price for the 2017 Brownlow Medalist at Round 11.

4 - Taylor Walker (Adelaide) 7.67 votes

Took some serious piss to start the season, but deep down we all know Tex ain't taking home Charlie this year.

3 - Max Gawn (Melbourne) 8.67 votes

The third Dee currently in the Downlow top-ten and potentially the reason none of them will win it. Big Maxy has been huge in 2021 currently averaging 20.7 touches a game and on track to kick 15+ goals for the season - could be more if he could kick straight. Normally you stay clear of ruckman, but there's an aura around Max and he does poll relatively well with 13+ votes in four of the last five seasons.

2 - Jack Macrae (Western Bulldogs) 9.08 votes

Polled really well last season with 15 votes placing him at equal 5th and was easily the Bulldogs best despite the Bont hype. The $10 currently on offer appears way overs. Macrae averages 36 touches per game at the moment and realistically is unlikely to cop a tag while he's alongside Bont and Treloar. Even if he doesn't consistently poll 3-votes, with the Bulldogs convincingly winning week-in week-out he'll just about poll in each of those games. Without Dunkley for three months means less around him to steal votes.

1 - David Mundy (Fremantle) 9.17 votes

Well no one saw this coming. The 35-year-old is proper old and will be 36 come Brownlow Night. Doubtful he can sustain this level especially with the greatest poller of all-time in Nat Fyfe likely to make his run soon, but incredible story nonetheless. Was $501 to win it 9 days ago, now if you think he's a genuine chance you can get $41.
